GDE Online

GDE Online stands for Gauteng Department of Education Online. The department has been around for many years, making it easier for students to get admission into institutions across the Gauteng province in South Africa, and even beyond the province.

In this post, we bring you some of the key duties of the department, how to access past questions, possible answers to them, how you can register and apply to schools across the province, and much more.

If you’re interested in admissions and education in the province, then read on.

Application Forms

The GDE has made the application process easy by creating walk-in centers where parents can be assisted to make applications from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m each day, excluding weekends. Students or parents can also use their cellphones to make applications online.

The first for online applications is to create an account.

The GDE recommends using a reliable phone number, as the department will send text messages regularly regarding the application. They can as well check out amendments to admissions regulations [pdf].

Admissions

Each year, admissions are open for students to hop into the education system, with the GDE stating that students can apply to a maximum of five schools. The department also advised students to use the home option at least once to apply for schools with Feeder Zones.

Applications for 2022 admissions opened last month (August 10) and closed a few days ago (September 3). If you missed the first phase, you don’t have much to worry, as the department has stated a phase two admissions will be open on September 13 and run through October 15.

The department advises students to submit documents to all schools within 7 days of applying. Students need not send documents to all 7 schools, though. They need only upload to one school for other schools to view.

If you still have questions, you can contact the GDE directly by email: at gdeinfo [at] gauteng dot gov dot za, or call them at: 0800 000 789, 011 355 0000

We are in the digital age, and the GDE has embraced innovations in technology, making the application process seamless for anyone interested in the program.

To login to the portal, you need only visit the login page at https://www.gdeadmissions.gov.za/login/ and type in your ID/ passport and then your password and finally click the “sign in” button.

If the credentials you provide are correct, you’ll be led directly to where you can check your profile and perform several other actions relation to your interests in the Gauteng Department of Education.

Past Papers

Past papers are quite important, as they give clues to what type of questions are set, the number of questions, and the maximum time allotted to answer them all.

The GDE hasn’t made things particularly easy for students, though. Navigating to the website where the papers are supposed to be found, https://education.gauteng.gov.za/pages/Exam-Papers.aspx, reveals the following grade options: Grade 12, Grade 11, Grade 10, Grade 09, Grade 06, and Grade 03.

Following each leads to several year options, between 2002 and 2020. Past papers for around 2002 are just not available. When you try to access past questions in that year, the website returns, “There are no documents in this view.”

However, 12 NSC 2020 Preparatory Examination Question Papers and Grade 12 NSC 2020 Preparatory Examination Possible Answers are available, and you can check them out here.

Following the link lead to several paper options, which you can download in pdf: Grade 12 NSC Technical Mathematics P2 (English) 2020 Preparatory Question Paper, Grade 12 NSC Technical Mathematics P2 (Afrikaans) 2020 Preparatory Question Paper, and Grade 12 NSC Technical Sciences P1 (English) 2020 Preparatory Question Paper.

Others are: Grade 12 NSC Technical Sciences P1 (Afrikaans) 2020 Preparatory Question Paper, Grade 12 NSC Tourism (English) 2020 Preparatory Question Paper, and Grade 12 NSC Tourism (Afrikaans) 2020 Preparatory Question Paper.
